Intent

At Whickham School we want to equip our young people with the skills, knowledge and attributes to be happy, healthy and safe when navigating the world around them. We want to instill the qualities of aspiration, resilience, respect and empathy. Our school culture promotes mutual respect and understanding of social inequalities, and tolerance of different beliefs. 

We wish to enable our young people to confidently tackle the personal issues and public challenges they face, empowering them to flourish as the future generation. We achieve this by exploring the digital and physical world, the political and legal landscape of the UK, religious and non-religious world views, students’ personal health development, and guidance relating to personal risk, to give students an insight into their world.

 

Implementation

Personal Development is delivered through three interconnected programmes across all year groups at Whickham School. These are: Tutorial PSHCE Session, Personal Development Drop Down Sessions and a wide ranging assembly schedule. All aspects of our personal development programme relate to our school qualities, national/international events, and other celebrations. 

 

Impact

By the end of their time with us at WhickhamSchool, students will have developed a range of skills and knowledge that will take them through all of life’s challenges. They will be active and considerate citizens who have the characteristics needed to navigate through the various paths they may follow in the future.

Our students will have embedded the core school qualities, Fundamental British Values and an understanding of how they can successfully take up their place in the world. Our students will be the future leaders of our communities, with self-respect and respect for others and their environment.
