Uniform
Our uniform identifies Whickham students as proud members of the school and community. Students should wear the uniform with pride and respect for all that it represents.
We are pleased to advise that our Whickham blazers, tartan skirts, trousers and ties are all 100% made from recycled plastic, certified to a GRS Gold Standard (Global Recycle Standard). This helps us minimise our environmental impact and maximise sustainability.
All pupils are required to be in full uniform each day. View further information on our uniform expectations using the links below:

Winter Footwear
Our uniform is suitable for virtually all inclement winter conditions, however on rare occasions when the weather is particularly poor, for example if we have several centimetres of snow, pupils can travel into school wearing footwear appropriate to snow and then change into their uniform school shoes.
The Gateshead West Uniform Scheme

The Gateshead West Uniform Scheme charity has been providing school uniform at local pay-as-you-feel markets since 2021. We aim to end uniform poverty in our area and stop wearable items of school uniform going to landfill.
Pre-loved items of Whickham School branded uniform are held at the Blaydon site – St Cuthbert’s Church Hall, NE21 5PT, alongside many items of generic uniform, including trousers, shirts and school shoes. We stock primary school uniform items there too.
Markets are held at the Blaydon site twice a month. Please come along if you’d like to save money, save the planet, or both! For upcoming dates, please see:
Equipment
Whickham Equipment
As part of our continuing drive to raise standards and achievement, Pupils must carry an equipment pack which enables full participation in lessons.
The equipment pack is critical to ensuring that you are fully prepared to learn and can present your work to the highest standard. We expect you to ensure that your pack is always equipped with the basic equipment outlined in the table below. If a pack is damaged then it is your responsibility to ensure it is replaced with a clear pencil case. Pencil cases must be clear to conform to examination regulations.
Items Required
| Pupils are responsible for | School will provide |
|---|---|
| Pens (Black and Green) | Compass |
| Pencil | Glue |
| Mini whiteboard pen | Post-its |
| Green highlighter | Flashcards |
| Ruler | Whiteboard & cleaning cloth |
| Protractor | Coloured pens and pencils |

Pupil stationery packs can be purchased from the school via ParentPay. Items are then delivered to your child via their tutor.
Individual items of equipment can be purchased using rewards points via class charts or at our lunch time pop up shop. Equipment is sold to pupils at cost, no profit is made.
In addition to the equipment in the equipment packs pupils also require:
- A suitable scientific calculator (these can be purchased separately to the equipment pack via the online shop)
- An apron (for D&T)
- A sketchbook (for Art)
Year 7 Starter Pack
- Contains an equipment pack as well as the items listed above. You can purchase this via the Parent Pay.
We also recommend:
- Some form of protective wallet or file divider to support pupils in looking after their homework and other documents. An expanding file with dividers for each subject is ideal and relatively cheap (usually available for under £5):
