Sixth Form SEND Support
Whickham Sixth is committed to ensure the inclusivity and wellbeing of all of our student by ensuring that we assess and provide support for young people with SEND in line with theĀ SEN and Disability Code of Practice 2015 (Ch. 7)
Our students are supported to participate in discussions about their aspirations, their needs, and the support that they require in order to help them meet those aspirations – whatever they may be.Ā This support promotes independence and enables our students to make good progress towards employment, higher education or training, thereby ensuring they live independent lives as productive members of their community.
The Sixth Form Team in collaboration with the SEND Team will:
- Assess all the relevant information from the student, the school and other identified professionals – this is then discussed with the student, (accompanied by a parent, advocate or other supporter if required).
- Develop a Person Centered Plan with the student which may include assistive technology, tuition, mentoring services, supported study and other external specialist support services.
- Ensure this plan is understood and implemented by all the stakeholders of each individual student’s education.
- Continue to review the effectiveness of the support plan in the context of the studentās progress and any changes to their ambitions and aspirations, making adaptations where necessary.
