Choosing the correct school is important and in order to help parents make the right choices staff are available to provide as much information as possible.

Information from Gateshead Council on how to apply for a secondary school

 

Admissions for September 2027

Admissions to Whickham School are handled by Gateshead Council through its coordinated admissions scheme. Please see the link below to the Gateshead website from which you can access their online application form. Please note that the deadline for “on-time” admissions is Friday 30th October 2026.

Parents should note that the school was significantly oversubscribed for 2025 from first choice preferences. Parents wishing to obtain a place for their child at Whickham School are advised that they should place Whickham School as their first choice.

Please note, places cannot be guaranteed and will be decided by Gateshead School Admissions following the admissions policy and (if necessary) the oversubscription criteria.

Any parent wishing to appeal a refusal of a school place should visit Gateshead Council’s admissions appeal website.

In year admissions

In-year admissions to Whickham School are handled by Gateshead Council through its in year transfers process.

Parents should note that the school is over-subscribed in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. We would encourage parents to contact Mr McCaughey on 0191 4960026 to discuss their in year application.

Please complete the Waiting List Application Form if you would like your child to be placed on our waiting list and email it to info@whickhamschool.org Admissions from the waiting list are made in priority order (as specified in the admissions policy) and not on a first-come first-served basis.

You may wish to view the Department for Education’s School Admissions Code for further information.
